Here is the skeleton of the dog. All breeds of dog have the same amount of bones, it is the spacing and length of the bones that varies for each breed. This is the skeleton of greyhound. In the illustration I have noted the bones that are important to know

Broken toes (fingers) are very common in hunting hounds particularly when hunting on rocky ground
كسر في أصابع القدم (أصابع) شائعة جدا في الصيد بكلاب الصيد وخاصة عندما الصيد على الأرض الصخرية
The most common injury is one of the longer toes (fingers), sometimes it is just the ligament that snaps and sometimes the bone breaks

The ligament is like an elastic band, once it has gone it can be repaired with special surgery but it is not very successful. The toe will just look flat against the other toes

If it is the bone that has broken, this can be reset but not many vets will do this, the usually recommend amputation

Sometimes leaving the toe in place can affect the running ability because it will catch or swell up and cause the Saluki pain which will in turn mean that the Saluki is not willing to use this foot to its full extent

Removing the toe will mean that there will be more pressure put on the other toes and they can suffer damage too

It is therefore important to always check your Salukis feet regularaly, particularly after a hard run and always make sure that the nails are kept short
