So now I have told you to beware of 'complete foods' I will tell you that I feed a complete food to my Salukis! This 'complete' is one especially formulated for greyhounds and is designed so that meat can be added to it

Looking at the table on page 011 in the attachments under Part I of this topic there is a list of meats and vegetables along with their protein levels

Horse has the highest levels but these are not available to me here in the UK so I have to use the other meats that are obtainable

For a regular meat I use tripe which is the first stomach of the cow and also known as paunch. The cow has 4 stomachs but only the paunch has any goodness in it. Hare and rabbit are very often provided by the Salukis so I do not need to

Milk and eggs are included in the Wafcol complete food so I do not need to add these ingredients to the adults meal. Feeding puppies is completely different and I will cover that in another topic

Two weeks or so before a competition I feed the higher protein value meats. I do not feed these meats for too long as they make the Salukis hyperactive. After a competition I give them a lower protein diet for a few days to 'bring themback down' to something near normal for any breed of dog. I have found though that Salukis are anything

I feed various raw vegetables two or three times per week. I use broccoli, carrots, potato, cabbage and sometimes the green tops from the carrots. All of these vegetables are put into a food mixer and minced to a fine mixture

Obviously you would need to look around and see what ingredients are easily available to you in your vacinity. We are always being told in the west that Salukis are traditionally fed on rice and dates so these are two ingredients you can consider but please remember to remove the stones from the dates

One ingredient that is included on the food chart is onion, since this chart was produced it has been found that onion is harmful to dogs so please do not add it
